People who have issues with a sensitive scalp all know how annoying it can be. Apart from the irritation and discomfort, scalp disorders can lead to hair loss, dandruff, itching, and redness.

To identify the reasons for the sensitivity, it is important to accurately identify the causes. Once you know the symptoms well enough, you can try out these tips for an effective scalp treatment.

See a doctor

Before you begin the treatment it is better to consult a dermatologist if you are not 100% sure about the exact condition of your scalp. There may be many reasons for your problem which may not even be directly related to your scalp such as, stress, weather conditions or the diet you take may not have sufficient nutritional value or you may have some allergy.

Avoid bathing with hot water

Hot water may be soothing for the body but if you have a sensitive scalp it can be very harmful. This is because hot water drains out the moisture from the skin and makes it dry, which only leads to worsening the condition. It is best therefore to either reduce the temperature or just bathe with water at room temperature.

Shun sharp objects

If your skin itches due to a sensitive scalp, using a sharp object will only aggravate the condition. Avoid combing your hair when wet and when you do, use a wide-tooth comb. Let your hair dry naturally rather than by a hair dryer to prevent loss of moisture from the scalp.

Use the right shampoo

All shampoos are not made for the treatment of sensitive scalp and if you don’t use the right one it may intensify the malady. The shampoo you choose should be soothing and effective for dandruff. It should contain the nourishment of a conditioner in order to take extra care with a sensitive scalp and eradicate the problem from the root.

Moisturize

If your scalp is dry and flaky it is important to moisturize it regularly to retain all the natural oils in the scalp. While a regular moisturizer can work for some, a natural oil from herbal sources can be tired. Almond oil or jojoba are good natural plant based options that can restore both the hair and the head’s balance.

Test the product before use

Whenever you are using a new hair product it is better to do a patch test before you purchase it in order to check what reaction it has on the skin. If it itches or stings, ditch it for another brand. When coloring your hair, use a semi-permanent color since a permanent color contains an ingredient known as PPDA that can lead to allergic reactions. You can retouch the roots instead of coloring every time so as to limit exposure to harsh chemicals to the scalp.

In short, do not neglect your scalp by taking it for granted that all is well. Nothing can be more embarrassing than letting dandruff flakes fall on your clothing. The hair treatment tips given above will improve your health and give you peace of mind.
