Did your significant other finally pop that long-awaited question? Maybe it was something entirely out of the blue that shocked the socks off you. Whatever the situation, the engagement is just the beginning of many milestones to come.

You won’t have another free minute for the following year. After hours of phone calls, texts, and social media posts, you’ll have just a few minutes to clear your mind and start that inevitable checklist of future to-dos. While there will undoubtedly be plenty of activities, one of the first on that list will likely be the engagement photos.

Indeed, these photos are about you and your significant other. Capturing your love and happiness together, but you’ll want to look your best. You’ll want that new gorgeous ring shining as it has never before. Even if you aren’t supporting the biggest or most expensive ring, here are some tips that will make that ring stand out:

Get It Cleaned

Things are fresh and new right now, but by the time the actual shoot rolls around, you will have shown off your piece so much that it will feel like old news. Everyone and their mother will have seen it by this point. They will have grabbed your hand and drooled over your new rock.

The ring will probably be a bit dirty by the time the shoot arrives. At the very least, it’ll be smudged and smeared with several unwanted fingerprints. Not to fear, though, because there are some tried and proven methods for getting that ring back to sparkling condition.

All you need is a little hot water, salt, baking soda, dish soap, tin foil, and an old discarded toothbrush. Let the ring soak in a mixture of the above ingredients for 10 minutes, take it out, scrub it with the toothbrush, and it’ll be sanitized and cleaned. If, at any point, you find yourself in need of assistance, you can hit the internet and find a myriad of tutorials covering this very topic.

Match It with the Right Outfit

MoissaniteCo rings are incredibly versatile and can be successfully paired with many combinations. However, the setting you choose might look better with specific colors and styles. Some jewelers offer distinctive rings in white, yellow, and rose gold. Whatever color and style you go with, there will be some standard guidelines you’ll want to follow.

  • White Gold or Platinum – When choosing white gold or platinum rings, you’ll want to consider colors that are rich and deep. The best examples of these would be plum, emerald, or royal blue. A dress that comes available in emerald tones or wine colors would be a perfect go-to solution.
  • Yellow Gold Bands – Yellow gold bands are always popular. If this is the road you go down, you’ll want to choose an outfit that boasts light pinks, creams, and red. Something on the lighter scale will match much better. You’ve probably seen these combinations in a variety of online wedding pictures already. Pink and gold are highly known for complementing each other, and you’ll see exactly why when you pair the two together. If you are a bit on the casual side, you might want to consider a rose gold blouse.
  • Rose Gold Bands – Is it any question why rose gold is becoming a more and more popular option for engagement bands these days? Not when you see everything the color has to offer. That being said, deep blues, blacks, and greys are all colors that match phenomenally with rose gold jewelry. Pair them with a little black dress, and you’ll be more than making a statement.

The Pose Does Matter

You might think fashion is all about colors and styles. There is no denying that the two do play a significant role, but your poses can be just as important. This is especially true when you are trying to get that engagement ring in the shot.

Hands can always be a bit tricky when they become the focal point of an image. You’ll want to make sure you don’t make yourself look awkward, and you can avoid just that by considering the following poses:

  • Holding hands
  • Wrap your hands around the guy’s neck
  • Showing off the ring
  • Incorporating items like a blanket
  • Hands-on his chest
