“Natural’ has become the buzzword in today’s wellness and beauty industry. A consumer purchases a product after careful observation and dives deep into a product’s benefit for his well-being as well as for the environment.

With essential oils becoming popular day by day, it is vital to understand how fragrances are made.

Fragrance Making:

Nature gives birth to a lot of natural fragrances around. Natural oils are extracted from herbs and spices, fruits and seeds and are then converted into three types of ingredients that add up to the aromas present currently.

Carbon, hydrogen and oxygen — these are the three essential elements found in every fragrance. With this information, scientists have been able to replicate natural fragrance oil. When you replicate the master elements, you can help bring down the cost and turnaround time to as low as possible.

Three fragrance ingredients are, essential oils, man-made and nature identical.

Not just fragrances, essential oils are also quite in demand these days. With people discovering multiple health benefits derived from these oils, their demand is at an all-time high.

But do you really know the difference between essential oil and fragrance oil?

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRAGRANCE OIL AND ESSENTIAL OILS?

Essential Oil

There are so many essential oils present in the market today. If you are someone who likes a natural scent, you must go for essential oil. These oils are extracted from flowers, herbs and plants throughout the process of steam distillation.

The derived components are heated until the gas is released and then condensing the gas back into a liquid. The process is carried out very carefully to ensure that the compound doesn’t break during this. Make sure the oils you get are 100% pure. There are many diluted essential oils present in the market today.

Make sure you read how to use the essential oil you’re planning to purchase. Some oils can be applied directly, while some are a little more strong than others and need a carrier oil for smooth application.

The PROS:

• 100% Pure

• You can blend multiple oils

• All-natural

• No side-effects if appropriately used

The CONS:

• Limited options

• Some oils can’t be used directly on skin and with certain health conditions

Fragrance oil

Created with a mix of aroma chemicals and ingredients like resins, essential oils, extracts etc., fragrance oils are synthetic oils.

Close to 40-80 materials can be used to create just one fragrance oil, while luxury perfumes like david perfume can be made with more materials. There are different scents with multiple notes. These oils are already made to be applied directly or are put into soaps and other beauty products.

Some fragrances help accelerate the cold process soap, and others discolor. Make sure; just like essential oils, you read up about these oils as well.

The PROS

• There are more than 200 varieties.

• Have proved to be more stable than essential oils in cold process soaps

• Can be used in lotion, bath oils etc. as they are skin safe.

The CONS

• Some fragrances can discolor or accelerate the cold process soaps

• They are not natural and can have synthetic properties.

Whichever oil you pick, make sure you have read the information carefully. If used adequately, these oils can prove to be very beneficial. It totally depends on your taste and style. Experiment a lot and then take your pick.

Happy Smelling!
