Comfortable & Casual Career-Worthy Styles

After a unique year that involved a lot of videoconferencing and comfortable clothing, many people are starting to return to their workplaces. If your closet looks more like a display at a leisurewear shop, you might be heading out to pick up some fashion staples.

The good news is that most offices have adopted a more casual dress code, allowing people to feel more comfortable while at work. Here are a few pieces to include in your business-casual wardrobe

Oversized Cardigans & Outerwear

A slouchy sweater or oversized cardigan is a must-have for returning to the office. When you put on a loose-fitting piece of outerwear, you’ll feel comfortable and relaxed without looking like you came to work in your pajamas. Try pairing a comfy button-down cardigan with a skirt or pair of slacks to create your own version of women’s “workleisure” or “business comfort.”

Workleisure refers to the blend of professional gear with leisure apparel that many have worn while working for a year or longer. Another term for this new professional fashion trend is “power casual”.

The days of wearing a suit to the office Monday through Thursday seem to be a thing of the past, at least in most offices. Apparel stores have pivoted their professional offerings to include more comfortable apparel.

Fitted Blazer

When your workplace calls for business apparel rather than casual or workleisure, a blazer is a must-have in your wardrobe. Wearing a fitted blazer can help you look put-together and professional, while choosing a soft and comfortable fabric can help you feel good throughout your workday.

You can also style your blazer with all different looks. Top your favorite T-shirt and skirt with a blazer to add a professional touch to the outfit. You can also wear it with a pair of dress slacks and pumps for a look that’s more business than casual.

Stretchy Slacks

If you’re used to wearing sweatpants while working, going back to dress slacks with buttons and zippers might feel a little torturous. Good news: Many apparel manufacturers feel your pain and now offer stretchy dress slacks to combine the best of both works.

Pair your comfy slacks with the fitted blazer, slouchy cardigan, and a T-shirt or blouse. You might be able to get away with stylish sneakers, although flats are a good substitute if your employer isn’t okay with casual footwear.

Skirts & Dresses

Skirts and dresses can be incredibly comfortable, especially when they’re made from soft and breathable fabrics. But you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort, and most offices allow employees to wear both business and business-casual dress codes.

A T-shirt dress is a comfortable yet stylish option that flatters any body type, while a skirt with a stretchy waistband pairs nicely with a blouse and delivers all-day comfort.

You don’t have to dread going back to the office when you have fashion staples in your wardrobe that blend comfort and professionalism. Style a few outfits and add cute accessories to look great and feel confident as you stroll back into your workplace.
