Christopher Kane Fall/Winter 2014 | London Fashion Week

Christopher Kane Fall 2014–Shown during London Fashion Week, the fall-winter 2014 collection from Christopher Kane marked the launch of his first handbag line. The leather accessories range from sleek and miniature to large carryalls with some even featuring bright neon clasps. When it comes to his collections, Kane seems to be never short of ideas and fall is no exception. From mannish tailoring in the form of slouchy suiting to nylon dresses trimmed with fur to sculptural sleeves which wind around the woman’s arm like a serpent, there is no shortage of creativity here. His finale looks of voluminous organza dresses are also a sight to see. The fabric is layered as asymmetric folds that at once have a structured and undone look.

Mary Katrantzou Fall/Winter 2014 | London Fashion Week

Mary Katrantzou Fall 2014–When you think of Mary Katrantzou, the Greek designer has become synonymous with her signature digital prints but for her fall-winter 2014 collection she decided on other ways to showcase her vision. Katrantzou found herself inspired by the idea of uniforms and the symbols used on them for her designs’ decorations. Gone were the structural silhouettes which were replaced with long tunics such as the opening look worn by Kirsten Owen and metallic suiting. Texture was a main component of the new season with symbol-shaped brocades, chain mail, jacquards and pleating for pretty dresses with edge.

Topshop Unique Fall/Winter 2014 | London Fashion Week

Topshop Unique Fall 2014–Looking like the wardrobe for the cool girl next door, the fall-winter 2014 collection from Topshop Unique mixes high street with editorial glamour. This season’s trend of fur is continued on in London with the use of faux color-blocking swatches and furry dresses and coats. The silhouette this season is full with bulky tunic coats belted above the waist. Some standouts of the lineup include a leather python printed coat, a multi-colored fur coat with red, black and pastels as well as a sheer top worn by Querelle Jansen that features modest embroideries over the bosom.

Derek Lam Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Derek Lam Fall 2014–Clean and elegant sportswear is the staple of Derek Lam, and the American designer was not short on either aspect for his fall-winter 2014 collection shown during New York Fashion Week. This season, Lam was inspired by “nomadic silhouettes and rustic fabrications” as his show notes indicate. The silhouette is forgiving with mid-length skirts sometimes flared at the bottom layered under boxy coats in a neutral palette teamed with lavender and periwinkle accents. Lam ends on a slinky note featuring a trio of dresses made of satin with a strip-like technique connected by gold beading.
