For fall-winter 2015, Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci looked to a Victorian-Chola for inspiration. Juxtaposing his love for black and all things gothic with street culture, Tisci created a collection that was razor-sharp in aesthetic–political correctness aside. A standout was the show’s beauty; models hit the catwalk with dramatic facial jewelry.
Although Tisci has been known for sending septum piercings down the runway before, fall took it up a notch with bold crystals covering everything from cheeks to chins as well as double ringed nose accessories. Hair was done in tight braids with strands curled and stuck to the forehead. Outerwear was perfectly tailored with cropped jackets borrowed from Victorian men and dramatic coats with flared skirts or fur accents. Evening took on glittering embellishments with beads in demure and classic shapes—a modern day gothic’s dream.
