Chanel’s new creative director Virginie Viard unveils her vision for spring-summer 2020. Presented during Paris Fashion Week at Grand Palais, the house’s codes remain at the forefront for the first main season collection since Karl Lagerfeld’s passing. Models walk on a rooftop scene inspired by French films of the 1950s and 1960s. There are tweed jackets, checkered prints, the signature camellia flower and statement jewelry. A color palette spotlights shades of navy blue, deep red and pastel pink paired with black and white. Bold metallics add some playfulness as well as a series of color-blocked logo prints in oversized text. For evening wear, dresses with puffed sleeves go sheer with floral embellishments. Full skirts, sequins and ruffles bring even more volume to the designs.
