For Balenciaga’s spring-summer 2020 collection, artistic director Demna Gvasalia looks to the working person for inspiration. Modern power dressing takes shape with relaxed suiting, squared shoulders and high-necked dresses. Prints range from mock tabloid magazine covers to leopard spots and polka dots. Outerwear includes belted trench coats as well as denim jackets. No doubt, two statement designs of the season are skintight catsuits with sparkling embellishments. Evening wear also takes the spotlight with ballgowns featuring fitted waists and exaggerated skirts. For casting, Gvasalia looks to leading models such as Bella Hadid and Hannelore Knuts as well as professional women including a violinist and mechanical engineer.
