Dark Elegance at McQueen – Sarah Burton’s airy and light creations get a dark touch for Alexander McQueen’s spring 2012 collection. Dramatic shapes and embellishments define the McQueen woman for the new season in hues of gold, blush, lilac, black and ivory. Creating a marriage between fairytale princess and bondage vixen with peekaboo head pieces, Burton delivered lace, chiffon and silk ensembles that were classic yet modern at the same time.
In keeping with the Grand Master, but hardly full tilt. At least I’m not worried about any of these surfacing on Kate Middleton—or else I’ll eat my tiara…
How people say Sarah Burton is a terrible designer is beyond me. Her attention to detail, silhouette and fit is exquisite. I think she’s keeping in mind what made people look at a piece and know it was McQueen and I think she is doing it beautifully.

The clothes are incredible, but to me it’s the masks/headpieces that really make the whole collection. Â They’re creepy, beautiful, macabre and just perfect. Â I hope to see them used in editorials to great effect.

Most of these pieces are gorgeous! Some are little too “Halloween” for my taste but still…

*sigh* alexander mcqueen has lost what catapaulted it to fame in the first place. None of these pieces are really unique, or even remotely interesting. In fact, they’re fairly boring. Dressing up an office suit or dress in faux fur and ruffles doesn’t make it haute couture.Â
