In lieu of its usual Paris slot, Alexander McQueen’s fall-winter 2016 collection returned to London Fashion Week for the first time in over ten years on Sunday. With a play on the masculine and feminine, creative director Sarah Burton opened the show with black tailored coats embroidered with florals, clocks and butterflies for a whimsical touch. Then came the dresses–dreamy fluttering looks with ruffles and open shoulders in breezy fabrics.
The rest of the show played on the contrast between mannish jackets and sheer gowns. A rare leather jacket made an appearance as did fur embellishments at the collar or across the bodice. For evening wear, the McQueen woman embraces sheer once again with barely there gowns decorated with fantastical imagery and sparkling crystals.
