Target Boycott–Plus size fashion blogger Chasity Garner Valentine has made headlines after her decision to boycott Target has become viral. The blogger became upset after looking at the Altuzarra for Target collaboration, and discovering the range would not carry plus sizes. She wrote on her blog explaining the reasoning behind this, “[The collaboration] has 50 pieces of beautiful (and I mean beautiful) affordable clothing and none of it will be remotely close to the size that I wear. ..You have once again made me feel like a second-class customer and because of that I’m going to have to discontinue my relationship with you altogether. Year after year, season after season, you put out these gorgeous designer collections and you almost never include a plus range.”

Not only did Chasity say she will not buy anymore clothes from Target but this also includes any other items Target carries such as groceries and appliances. Her and others are using the hashtag #BoycottingTarget for their cause. A Target spokesperson released this statement to Refinery29 about the boycott. “We never want our guests to feel disappointed, and if we’ve let them down, we apologize. We appreciate the opportunity to hear directly from our guests. We’ll take this feedback into consideration as we move forward. In the meantime, we offer a variety of plus options. We’ll also be introducing a new plus line in the near future that features a focus on the latest styles, all at great prices.”

While inclusion seems to be something fashion has been doing more of lately, we would also like to point out that this collaboration also does not have petite size available either.

What do you think? Should plus size women boycott Target or is it an overreaction?

  1. reality is that alot of people are plus size and if the store doesnt cater to you, why shop there? sometimes i find straight size target items fit me but id love a designer collaboration made with everyone in mind.
