LV and Marc – The last show of Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs was shown on Wednesday during the final day of Paris Fashion Week spring/summer 2014. After sixteen years as creative director of the brand, Marc’s vision for the luxury label has been ever changing. Check out our list of Marc’s top runway shows and campaigns for Louis Vuitton throughout the years!
Marc Says Goodbye to Louis Vuitton – Earlier today, the news was revealed that spring-summer 2014 would be Marc Jacobs’ last season at the helm of Louis Vuitton. After serving as creative director for sixteen years, the show was almost like a mourning, quite literally actually, with a color palette of mostly black. Jacobs revisited his past collections at Vuitton with the runway show’s setting featuring carousels (spring 2012), escalators (spring 2013) and a train station clock (fall 2012).
The outing was extravagant with pieces that looked like they belonged in a gothic showgirl’s closet. Black feathers, jet beads and embroidered rosettes all decorated the many jackets and column dresses presented. Embellished cropped jackets paired with blue jeans brought a call-back to Jacobs’ American roots. Now, with the final show under his belt, Jacobs looks to focus on his own namesake brand and the fashion world awaits for the news of his successor.
Star Power – With past campaigns boasting of stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie and Uma Thurman; Louis Vuitton enlists actress Michelle Williams for its latest advertisements focusing on the W and the Capucines handbags. Both of the leather styles are new, and are displayed by the blonde who wears a black look from the fall ready-to-wear line and a red pout. Peter Lindbergh shot the advertisements which will appear in magazines starting next month. (WWD)
Art Deco Chic – Inspired by the art deco movement of the 1930s, Louis Vuitton aspires for classic elegance with a modern edge for its fall-winter 2013 jewelry collection. The style book images feature Romanian model Andreea Diaconu who is known for appearing in fashion glossies like W Magazine and Vogue Paris. Standouts of the collection include a zig-zag motif necklace and monogram flowers.
The New Coverup – Louis Vuitton taps Liu Wen for a new lookbook showcasing its collaboration with three street artists for a capsule collection of scarves. Artists Eko Nugroh from Indonesia, Eine from the UK and the Franco-Tunisian artist El Seed all put their own unique spin on Vuitton’s classic square scarves for the fall-winter 2013 line. Colorful and eclectic, these pieces are sure to be a hot item to have.
Fall Mood – The thirties influence of Louis Vuitton’s autumn collection spills over to the fall 2013 campaign featuring an all star cast including Gisele Bundchen, Karen Elson, Carolyn Murphy and Isabeli Fontana. Photographed by Steven Meisel, the quartet poses on a moody set wearing fur jackets, silk dresses and matching short coifs which evoke a retro elegance as they lounge in a hotel room.
An Extended Stay – Dree Hemingway has her own private getaway for Louis Vuitton’s pre-fall 2013 catalogue, lensed by Koto Bolofo. The American model gets decked out in the season’s capes, embroidered dresses and the brand’s many accessories in the shoot photographed on location at Paris’ Hôtel de Crillon. The whimsical shoot highlights the diversity of the pre-fall collection which ranges from casual elegance with simple knits to luxe refinement with full furs.
Karlie in Louis Vuitton – Karlie Kloss had a flapper chic moment in Louis Vuitton at “The Immigrant” premiere held during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival earlier today. Accessorized with a silver clutch and drop earrings, the American model certainly had a winning look in the fall 2013 dress.
