Why Perfume Should Always Be a Part of Your Outfit

How often do you wear perfume? Many people reserve perfume for dates or special occasions, but it is so much more than a luxury product. There is a wide range of fragrances on the market which are suited to every taste and occasion, and when used well, perfume can become an integral part of a person’s identity. When you get ready in the morning, you choose underwear, clothes, shoes, makeup, and accessories; but if you do not choose a perfume, the outfit is not yet complete. This article outlines why perfume should always be a part of your outfit—and not just an occasional treat.

Scents can provoke emotional responses

We associate some scents with positive emotions and memories, and perfume has the power to trigger both. When we catch a certain scent, it can transport us to another place or time where we feel happy, powerful, energized, or peaceful.

Your perfume becomes part of your identity

Throughout history, kings and queens have commissioned their own unique scent which would be exclusive to them. It was an early form of branding, but the concept remains today. Whether you design your own scent or choose a brand, your perfume combines with your natural body odor, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soaps, body lotions, and even laundry detergent to produce a unique scent. That scent becomes your identity, and some people will associate you with a particular perfume forever.

Perfume tells a story

Humans make quick judgements about each other, and part of that judgement is made based on how a person smells. Some people will smell of not much at all, and others will leave a lasting impression. For example, Flower Bomb by Viktor and Rolf is often described as “fantastical” and “enchanting.” Wouldn’t it be nice to be remembered that way?

Perfume provides long-lasting freshness

We all bathe to ensure we stay clean and fresh, but after a few hours, the smell of our shower gel or soap has faded. Perfume lasts for a lot longer, and you can take your bottle of perfume with you in your handbag or pocket to spritz again as needed.

Perfume can improve your mood

Perfume has the power to boost a person’s mood, confidence, and even their self-esteem. When we are feeling less than our best, putting on a perfume that makes you smell beautiful can lift you up so you can take on whatever the day throws at you.

Perfume can make you more attractive

When we smell a scent that we like on another person, it literally draws us closer to them. Humans and animals are genetically predisposed to be attracted to the scent or pheromones of others, and perfume can help to enhance your desirability.

Some scents can provide aromatherapeutic benefits

Vegan perfumes made with natural ingredients are becoming more widely available, and many include scents that have been found to have aromatherapeutic benefits. Winter spice, citrus notes, and floral scents can help to relax us in times of stress; lavender and jasmine can help people to sleep; while rosemary can help people to stay alert. Think of all the different air fresheners on the market and how they are marketed to us—perfumes have the potential to deliver the same benefits.
