Clear Spring – Valentino enlists photographer Sarah Moon to shoot its spring 2013 advertising campaign. Model Tilda Lindstam wears the season’s pale, ivory shades with a clear, plastic and crystal adorned jacket in the studio images. Models Codie Young, Magdalena Jasek, Mackenzie Drazan, Maud Welzen and Esther Heesch (all not pictured) will also appear in the campaign which hits magazines in Janaury. (WWD)
Master of Couture – The Somerset House highlights the haute couture designs of iconic fashion designer Valentino Garavani, in an unprecedented London exhibition running now through March 3, 2013. This new short film shows Garavani discussing the exhibition, the craft of haute couture, and behind-the-scenes stories of some his famous designs. “To me it was very important to give the essence of femininity, the essence of glamour, and essence of haute couture, the perfection and the dress. It’s like a sculpture that is done in the body of the lady,” he says of his designs. There is also a digital edition of the exhibition available at Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum.

Red’s Fairy Tale Store – Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were inspired by the dreaminess of fairy tales when they designed the new RED Valentino flagship store opened in Milan. The boutique is 175 square meters in size with an overlying color palette of bright white; housing the clothing and accessories collections for the fall-winter and spring-summer 2013 seasons.
The Legacy of Valentino – Coinciding with the upcoming “Valentino: Master of Couture” exhibition, the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum launches a new website giving access to a browser version of the museum. The upcoming exhibit set to debut at the Somerset House in London this Thursday, November 29, will focus exclusively on Valentino’s haute couture designs with over 130 dresses on display. Secret Retreat – After an initial preview, we have a full look at Valentino’s fall 2012 campaign starring Frida Gustavsson, Jac Jagaciak and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. The trio poses at the Sicilian Palazzo Valguarnera-Gangi in Palermo in the romantic images photographed by Deborah Turbeville. The collection’s leather pieces, Moroccan inspired prints and crystal embellishments shine in the elegant and ornate setting.
Valentino’s Dark Romance – Valentino designers Pierpaolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri are adding a touch of seduction to their dossier with the label’s fall 2012 couture showing. Of course the sheer, floor-length and long-sleeve gowns which have become almost a requisite for Valentino shows now are still accounted for, but there is some vamp appeal for autumn nonetheless. An example would be the opening look worn by model Frida Gustavvsson featuring a sheer crepe gown with sensual cutouts worn underneath. Also a change of direction can be seen in the array of jumpsuits, tailored pants and crystal embellished sweaters. Eighteenth century influences are spotted in the collection’s detailed brocades, billowing capes and delicate ruffles for the perfect balance between hard and soft elements.
