Dior’s Classic Fall – Bill Gaytten looked towards the archives for inspiration with his second mainline collection for Dior’s fall 2012 presentation. With still no official word on a permanent creative director, the new season showcased demure forties and fifties inspired silhouettes in a muted color palette of taupe, black and burgundy. Despite the lack of Galliano opulence, Gaytten offered a lovely refinement for the autumn season with ballerina inspired shapes. Cinched jackets, pleated skirts and jewelry style embellishments dominate the Dior woman’s wardrobe for autumn.

Cinched waists, sheer tops and full, pleated skirts dominate the runway this season. Playing with prints, the Dior woman also wears hounds tooth, floral patterns and gradient lines for spring. The finale dresses were demure as well, showing a moody mix of black and grey with just a touch of sparkle.

Dior’s Tamed Spring – After last season’s Galliano fall-out, fashion house Christian Dior put atelier director Bill Gaytten in charge of its spring 2012 collection and the change was evident. The new season showcased a less extravagant Dior woman with classic silhouettes that paid homage to feminine curves and Parisian style. Prints varied from mosaic-like to herringbone and stripe patterns, bringing a bit of pop to the minimal palette. Not losing sight of Dior’s extravagant evening wear looks, however, the finale featured lingerie inspired gowns made of sheer material, silk, tulle and lace.
