Céline Fall 2014–After last season’s painterly prints, Céline’s Phoebe Philo offered a more pared down vision for the brand’s fall-winter 2014 collection. A simplified outing does not necessarily mean minimal. The Céline woman takes on print in the form of leopard spots, color with spots of sky blue and bright yellow tones as well as embellishment in the shape of crystal adorned dresses and coats featuring feather-light wispy adornments. The silhouette is more streamlined than spring however. Coats fit close to the body with cocoon-like shapes while knits are long and lean worn over wool skirts. The shoe of choice this season is a leather wedged sandal with an ankle strap while Philo creates a bag with dull hardware and a stitching-like embroidery.
Free Energy–Much like the collection, Celine’s spring-summer 2014 campaign is a juxtaposition of frenetic energy and cool composure. With the help of choreographer Stephen Galloway, models Daria Werbowy (who also appeared in several previous ads for the brand), Julia Nobis, Amanda Murphy and Binx Walton pose for Juergen Teller in the label’s artful prints and modern silhouettes styled by Camilla Nickerson.
Celine Goes Abstract – Normally known for her restraint and minimalism, Celine creative director Phoebe Philo did away with the understated and went for a more maximalist approach at the label’s spring 2014 presentation. The designer cited Italian photographer Brassai as inspiration for the prints, evoking the images of graffiti he took in the 1930s. The display of color felt surreal with large strokes decorating dresses, tops and even coats. Still, there was some glimpse of Celine’s minimal signature with comparatively plain dresses layered over pleated and sheer skirts. The Celine woman’s accessories for spring include sculptural-like jewelry, slip-on shoe styles and oversized clutches decorated with raffia strips.
Lily in Celine – Actress Lily Collins celebrated the launch of her new Seventeen cover with a Barnes & Noble event held in New York City on August 6th. The “Mortal Instruments” star opted to wear a crop top and leather skirt look from the pre-fall 2013 collection of Celine. Lily paired the look with Christian Louboutin ‘So Kate’ pumps.
Work in Progress – Starring as the face of Celine for the third consecutive season in a row, Daria Werbowy appears perfectly candid in snaps by Juergen Teller. The Canadian model dons the raw glamour of the autumn season featuring plaid prints, eastern-inspired cuts and bold bags. Posing against kitschy patterns and stonework, the minimal designs of fall serve as a stark contrast to the colorful backdrops.
Effortless Style – Celine taps Daria Werbowy for its spring 2013 campaign, where she appears photographed by Juergen Teller. After starring in the fall advertisements with other models, Daria goes solo for the new season where she dons slouchy shapes and fur-lined sandals–capturing the easiness of the spring collection.
Light February – Rising star Vanessa Axente nabs her third Vogue cover with the February 2013 issue of Vogue Japan. The Hungarian beauty is relaxed and minimal in a look from Céline’s spring 2013 collection.
Black and White – Supermodel Carolyn Murphy graces the November cover of Vogue Korea, lensed by Cass Bird. The American beauty wears a matching top and pant from Celine in the black and white image.
Pride & Glory – Photographer Michelle Du Xuan lenses model Ling Ling Kong (Next Paris) in sleek selects from the Céline’s fall collection. Styled for the latest issue of L’Officiel China by fashion editor Zhang Jing, Ling Ling’s looks offer a minimalist, architectural complement to the moody images. Hair and make-up by Shuko Sumida and Min.K pulls everything together with bold beauty. / Assistant: J.M Chassier
Olympic Style – Kati Nescher graces the August cover of Vogue China wearing a sweater from Celine’s fall 2012 collection. The brunette beauty was photographed by Josh Olins for the Olympic themed issue.
