Most of us go traveling so we can unwind, relax, and escape from our day-to-day lives for a while. You want to feel your best when traveling, and for many of us, that means looking our best for the duration of our trip. Here are six simple tips for ensuring that you are traveling with as much style as possible.

Research Your Destination

The more you know about the place you are traveling to, the easier it will be to ensure that you pack the appropriate clothes with you. Researching beforehand is important from both a practical and a style perspective – you need to know what sort of weather to expect, as well as what the local fashion customs are. If you travel to Rio Dulce, you will have exceptional weather where you can dress lightly.

For most places in the world, you can wear pretty much whatever you like. However, it is important to be aware if this is not the case.

Prioritize Comfort

Traveling should be an enjoyable and enriching experience, but it’s hard to appreciate your surroundings if you are in physical discomfort because of ill-fitting clothes. As we mentioned above, you need to research your destination beforehand to find out what the local climate and customs. While you should, of course, make sure that the outfits you bring with you are suitable in both regards, it is also important that you stay comfortable.

You might be doing the majority of your traveling via public transport, but we still strongly recommend that you pack comfortable yet stylish walking shoes. If you really want to experience the places that you travel to, walking around them is the best way. Make sure that you research any areas you plan on walking through, even in the US there are areas of some cities that you don’t want to wander into if you aren’t familiar with the area.

Build Your Look Around Basic Pieces

You don’t want to bring your whole wardrobe with you when traveling. As nice as that would be, it would be a logistical nightmare for most of us. Depending on where you are traveling, you might want to buy some clothes when you reach your destination. If you’re heading out to somewhere in Asia or Africa, for example, where it is much hotter than you are used to, you may well want to adhere to the local fashion while you are there.

But in terms of what you should bring with you, identify some key pieces, the items around which you can build the rest of your look, and pack them first. Once you have these basics in place, you can pack whatever you need to complete your outfit.

Pack Something Special

While it is important that the clothes you bring with you are practical as well as stylish, it’s still worth packing something special just to make you feel good about yourself. If you are traveling with a partner or spouse, make time for a special night out together and pack a special outfit to suit the special occasion.

Alternatively, pack a little extra cash and buy yourself something special when you are there. It can be quite an experience to go to a local restaurant serving authentic local cuisine while you are wearing something elegant and formal sourced from the local area.

Accessorize

Adding the right accessories can really flesh out any outfit. Accessories are great because they are small and easy to pack. Even relatively cheap accessories can look great and breathe new life into an outfit that’s starting to feel a bit stale.

Even adding a hat to an outfit can completely change the way that it’s received – if you can pull off a hat, we would definitely recommend packing one. But some of us are blessed with awkward head shapes that can make finding the right hat a challenge. In this case, earrings and scarves can be used to achieve the same effect.

Augment Your Outfit While You’re There

If you are visiting a place that you have never been to before, there may be a few surprises in store for you. It is possible that you will get there and then discover that the clothes you’ve bought with you aren’t as well suited to the destination as you thought they were.

Sometimes, even when you plan everything perfectly, some unexpected Act of God will bring your plans down. However, all is not lost. You may be able to find a fashion solution in the local market that rectifies the issue easily.

Even if you manage to pack your clothes perfectly, have a look for any accessories available that you can’t find back home. This is a fantastic way of blending different fashion styles together and paying homage to the local fashion while still maintaining your own unique look.

Staying fashionable while traveling doesn’t have to be difficult. As with everything else relating to your trip – the trick is to make sure that you plan properly beforehand. Pack everything that you need to look your best, and then augment your outfits with local accessories and augmentation.
