The Things That Never Go Out Of Style

Whether you’re a sartorial maximalist with a closet overflowing with vintage and trendy pieces and jewelry boxes brimming with not just heirlooms but costume jewelry from thrifted pieces to high end; or you’re a minimalist with a capsule wardrobe that helps you get styled every day with ease; you both have one thing in common – you love looking and feeling your best in the clothes you wear and the skin you’re in.

And, no matter how different your style is (after all, variety is the spice of life), there are specific, universal things that never go out of style. These are things we all need to turn heads when we enter a room or walk down their street. These are the things that set us apart from those who care about their esthetic and those who don’t. Neither is right or wrong, but if you tend to err on the side of looking fierce, make sure you have the following.

Clothing That Fits

While oversized is a trend that will always be here, because hey, the Olsens just look cool; and skinny jeans, while they may be technically on their way “out,” will always be worn by punk rockers and some fashionable moms, you still want your clothing to fit just in the way it’s intended. So, if the top is designed to have a boxy silhouette, buy your usual size, don’t be tempted to size up – it’s not going to flatter your figure. And, if you’re a little insecure about parts of your figure, remember that every body type is beautiful, so your best bet is to purchase pieces in your actual size.

This is especially important when it comes to jeans and pants. If you buy your fantasy size – meaning the size you want to be – not only will you feel uncomfortable in your clothing (and it will show), but you probably won’t wear them often, which means a poor return on your investment. Instead, buy your current size, not the size you plan to be in three to six months. It’s equally important to wear the correct bra size if you wear bras. If you’ve never been fitted for your bra size, it’s a free service offered at any intimate boutique or store that sells intimate apparel. It takes mere minutes to get done. Not only will wearing the correct bra size improve your posture, but it can also make you look thinner, and of course, it makes your bust look incredible. So know your bra size!

High-Quality Shoes and Handbags

While it’s okay to get thrifty where you can, like tops and dresses and jewelry, it’s always a good rule of thumb to invest in the nicest shoes and handbags you can afford. After all, those are the two items most people will notice about your outfit, to begin with. Many online retailers offer gently used designer bags and shoes at a fraction of their original cost if you’re limited by budget. If you don’t want to go that route, you can always set that as something you budget and save for. It feels so good to buy yourself the bag of your dreams, primarily when you’ve worked hard for it. Not to mention, these pieces often become heirlooms to be passed on to friends and loved ones as you age or after you get a ton of compliments from the same person on the said item!

Taking Care of Your Skin

You may not expect to see this on a list, but beautiful, glowing skin never goes out of style! So, it had to be added in. Your skin is your largest organ and it’s something that people see every day. Take care of your skin daily so that your skin can still be glowing even as you age/ Make sure you’re seeing your dermatologist at least annually and using products beyond just cleansers. Make sure you’re investing a good toner for acne, SPF (to be worn daily), and that you’re cultivating a good morning and nighttime skin routine. Enough said!

Fine Jewelry

Would you rather have a jewelry box brimming with costume pieces you got on impulse that you rarely wear or one pure gold necklace, bracelet, or ring you wear every day? A classic set of small diamond earrings that you never take off is a must-have at some point too. No one is saying you have to become a minimalist, but investing in fine jewelry is worth it. These are the pieces that never go out of style, and you’ll wear every day. And, we all want at least some part of the look to have our own unique “signature.” This is quickly done with fine jewelry!

So, style is, of course, personal and something that we get to have the fun of playing with and changing through our lifetimes. That being said, the pieces mentioned above are some that we all need in our lives to keep our looks enviable and evergreen. Happy Shopping!
