Plus size fashion retailer Lane Bryant is grabbing headlines after a new lingerie television commercial was allegedly rejected by NBC and ABC. Called ‘This Body’, the black and white commercial stars Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover girl Ashley Graham, Tara Lynn, Precious Lee and other models. The clip includes a model breastfeeding as well as closeups of the women’s bodies. See it below and decide for yourself if it was too racy for television.

In a statement to Racked, Lane Bryant said they will not edit the advertisement. The statement reads: “The first edit was turned down out of hand and while we clearly created the commercial to air we will not edit it as we believe it’s a beautiful and appropriate expression of women’s bodies. We do plan to air this through our own media and through digital channels where they find it as acceptable.”

If this already sounds familiar, it is because it has happened before. Back in 2010, a Lane Bryant lingerie commercial featuring Ashley Graham was also rejected. Compared to other commercials featuring thinner models, it seems pretty tame. See for yourself below.

  1. The old comercial didn’t deserve to be banned, but the current kind of is.

Tv ads need to approach a larger size of demographics, and showing models breastfeeding or hugging each other naked is too much for prudish Americans. I can see why TV channels didn’t want to take the risk. I don’t think the last banning was due to body diversity issues.

    • I agree, I don’t think the ban has anything to do with the types of models…I don’t think it’s something American network tv can handle. Try cable guys…or maybe that is the story…just trying to get everyone talking about it is the marketing.
