Grey Movie – Cinematic is a phrase we use a few times when describing editorials, but Yelena Yemchuk’s latest contribution to Grey Magazine takes the proverbial cake looking like stills from a film. Through Yemchuk’s lens, Hannelore Knuts lounges, shimmy and shakes in set designer Louis Asaro’s surreal set-up. Styled by Valentina Ilardi-Martin, Hannelore dons a retro wardrobe complete with ensembles from labels such as Yves Saint Laurent, Phillip Lim and Azzedine Alaïa.

  1. There is nothing particularly cinematic about this shoot. Please see Sherman or some of Lindbergh’s work if you want cinematic. This has a mostly commercial/PSA feel to it.

  2. I love how Hannelore looks here, the hair in some of these is fantastic. I like the styling a lot, it’s retro but it doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard and the cinematic approach taken by Yelena works really well.

  5. i think cinematic is the wrong word. it seems more like a stage set. it almost has a carrie may weems look to it – in a much more vapid way than weems, of course. but i like the set – just don’t love it.
