Last month, Kim Kardashian was revealed as the January 2015 cover star of ELLE UK’s feminism issue. Just like her Vogue US cover earlier this year, the Elle one seemed to stir a bit of controversy. Editor-in-chief Lorraine Candy’s letter from the editor was released on the magazine’s website yesterday, and Candy wrote about the criticism, saying, “I noted some people questioning our choice, querying Kim’s credentials as a successful woman and ours as a feminist magazine. I wish women would not judge other women in this critical way. Everyone is entitled to their opinion; but for me, Kim’s success should be applauded, not sneered at or, indeed, denigrated. She is the perfect face for an issue devoted to self-belief.”

She continues later in the letter to say, “It would be great to [recognize] the value of what each of us does individually rather than continually comparing ourselves – and then illogically deciding somehow we don’t measure up. I think ‘if she can do it, I can too’ is a better approach, and I hope that when we next carry out a survey on womanhood, we can rely on you to sow the seeds of a revolution in self-belief.”

What do you think? With a Balmain campaign now under her belt, should people stop complaining about Kim’s success or is it deserved? Comment below.

  1. remind me, why actually should we look up to kim? for being in reality show and having fancy clothes? in which way should i, ordinary woman, admire kim? feminism is not about ladies like her, i hope not, even these days when elle thinks it is only enough to show some ass to be on the cover. what is her success, really?

  2. She attained her “celebrity status” based on … uh, not very much. And once that coveted “celebrity status” has been attained, it seems to stick around. I’d rather see someone TALENTED and PRODUCTIVE any day but I guess it doesn’t matter to a lot of people any more about what a person has achieved just so long as they are photogenic and have lots of followers on Twitter and Instagram. Sort of sad that this is what it’s come to. . .

  3. You’re defense of her is disgusting. What are you really saying??
That young women everywhere should look up to and appreciate
“well deserved” success for someone who’s ONLY claim to fame
is a SEX Tape?? That her and her morally corrupt family ride on the
coat tails of her sex tape?
THIS is who you and your magazine are celebrating? THIS is the message
you want to send? BRAVO.. you’ve just reminded all the rest of us
why we should NOT look to magazine’s for inspiration.
