Dolce & Gabbana designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana wrote a love letter to Italy with their spring-summer 2016 collection presented during Milan Fashion Week. Honing in on the 1950s as a specific reference point, the runway was filled of ladylike dresses that have become synonymous with the brand in the past few years. Scenery of ladies bathing on the beach or Michelangelo’s statue of David or even religious iconography decorated plenty of the pieces. Pajama dressing was also a standout. Rose blooms or stripes decorated loose-fitting tops and pants while paired with flower crowns or scarves as the ultimate accessorizes.

But it was not all about retro glamour. Dolce & Gabbana put an infusion of modernity into the runway show by having models take selfie snaps with their heavily embellished iPhone cases only for their results to appear on screens above. Many will remember that Dolce & Gabbana’s fall advertisements also featured models taking perfectly dressed selfies. For the finale, the designers sent out their models in smock dresses embellished with scenery of popular tourist spots in Italy—Verona, Lake Como and Venice to name a few.
