Chanel Fall 2011 | Paris Fashion Week

Chanel gone post-apocalyptic? The fall 2011 collection from creative director Karl Lagerfeld had all of the undertones of dystopian fashion with fingerless gloves, patchwork pockets and large cloaks. The background included a volcanic backdrop with charcoal grays, almost like the moody color palette of the clothing. The trademark tweeds and dresses were still on display contrasting the slouchy pants and suits.

“Hmmmm how can I make my ass, hips and thighs look WAYYY bigger than they actually are? I’ll just wear some new Chanel pants”.

Do you hear that sound?? Listen carefuly, that Coco Chanel spinning in her grave and attempting to curse out Karl’s name.

      The overalls. Good lord.
I’ve always wondered how collections like this came to be.
I mean, I can see how when you make a sketch of an impossibly tall and thin woman, most designs would look good.
But when someone actually makes the design, and it looks as horrible as some of the pieces here, who’s the person who says “Great! off to the runway!”.
Are they feeling sorry for all the fabric and work hours that went into it?

The silhouette is etremely unflattery. Plus, I have a hard time understanding the floppy random cloth around models’ ankle. I don’t see any reason why I would like to dress like this.

Also, the reason that he obviously refuses to use blakc model, both for Chanel and Fendi, really throws me off. I am sure Chanel has demographic besides white and asians, and other consumers would like to see themselves being represented. He said he only used models of the same skin tone to keep the show’s consistency. This sounds extremely racist to me.

Anyway, he was a legendary designer, but these days, I cannot see that anymore, regardless how many compliments he still receives.

Oh it doesnt just sound racist, IT IS racist. You’re right about Fendi too…not a single non-white girl. Its even rare to see a white brunette in his show. I mean I know Coco Chanel allegedly collaborated with Nazis, but seriously, this is 21st century.

It really isn’t that horrible; I just think that the styling/set really killed it for everyone. I mean if you look closely, some of the individual pieces are pretty nice. Except the pants. Good god are they A W F U L.

honestly, after digesting this a bit more, this feels like it could have been a lot worse. there were a selective handful of seperates that weren’t so bad.

There are a lot of separates which are great, but the overall impression is quite bad.

Lagerfeld’s collection this season is gorgeous and extremely on point. It is so inspiring to finally see something from Chanel that is daring, edgy, and a departure from the traditional and convservative suits and dresses they usually show. An extremely inspiring and refreshing collection from Chanel. Praise Karl.

I just don’t get the fit of those trousers. They’re not at all flattering. I actually like most of the pieces in this EXCEPT the big pants.

a couple of years ago when I mentioned on style.com that Karl was at the end of his rope i was so thoroughly chastised. I think Karl is doing what ever he feels with out any concern. In his mind he thinks he is Coco Chanel
