When thinking of iconic fashion in film, ‘Annie Hall’ should certainly be on your top 50 list. The 1977 movie starring Diane Keaton as the titular character and director-actor Woody Allen as Alvy Singer, won an Oscar for best picture and screenplay. The film is also often credited as one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time.
Besides all the critical accolade, Keaton’s style in the film was also inspirational. Her oversized, menswear inspired look can be credited to the actress herself, who wore many of her own clothes during the shoot. Soon after the film’s release, many woman started to mimic the style. A wardrobe that combines both fashion and comfort made it an easy look to copy. The ‘Annie Hall’ look is achieved through layering–long coats, loose-fitting trousers, a man’s tie, bowler hat and boots are all staples.
