Yamamoto’s Victorian Spring – With previous seasons influenced by 60s and 70s style, Yohji Yamamoto looked towards the Victorian era for inspiration with his spring 2012 collection. Models walked down the runway in deconstructed suits and billowing dresses. For accessories, larger than life hats appeared to be the perfect complement to the voluminous shapes. Beauty for the show included a twisted up-do and dark, gothic lips in shades of violet.
A bit of a Dickens mash up, isn’t it? ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ meets ‘Oliver Twist’/’David Copperfield’–I can spot the Artful Dodger, Madam Defarge and soon-to-be guillotined aristocrats merge identities in this deconstructed collection.Â
I’m probably projecting, but the truth is Yamamoto always stimulates.Â

I’m torn on this collection. Â While I love the creativity of all of the Japanese designers in general, I am finding myself liking only a few looks & the purple lipstick used. Â Plus it doesn’t feel/look springy at all.
I love over-sized clothes because they are comfy but this is kind of taking it too far?Â
