    • Abbey is amazing. Her expression is different, and furthermore you are only seeing a few of the shots. These are just the ones that were chosen and they were clearly going for a look. The model can only do so much.

  1. you guys are wrong she does change up her expression.. she has her mouth a little open in one and closed in another… LOL

love the ad no matter the range of the model’s facial expressions.

  8. i just think Abbey matches perfect with the clothes. Why she should had different expression?? It’s a commercial and she uses her nature and body language to make the garments more outstanding, this is more important, isn’t it?

  9. Love the clothes! Excuse my ignorance, but doesn’t the model get told what to do by the photographer who usually is under the direction from the company as to the overall aesthetic of the shoot? So if Abbey is “expressionless” here, isn’t that the “look” that Versace would have been after and that Testino asked of her?

      • Very true, thank you Mikelle S for answereing my query. I guess my issue then becomes if she is as expressionless as everyone suggests, why is she featuring so heavily in current campaigns? I’m just trying to figure out why everyone is so quick to blame the model as Stephen Dimmick also states in his reply in the thread above.

Also, I’m probably biased cause Abbey is an Aussie.

        • don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Abbey only can give one face, I was just responding to what you had said. I actually love the campaign whether she gives one face or not. I think it doesn’t matter how many faces a model can give, or how many looks she can portray… if I have one model who can portray 67 looks but that’s not what the brands want and i have another model who can only give 2 looks but every brand is after that look at the end of the day I’m going to want to book the second model.

By the way, blog commenters ALWAYS have a problem… no matter what model is booked and how many or how few expressions she gives, either she’s doing too much or not enough…

          • I didn’t mean to imply that you agreed with “one look Abbey” comments at all, I was thanking you for explaining to me what I may have misunderstood about how the industry or a shoot works. I’m sorry if you thought my comments were different to how I had hoped they would come across.

My interest in fashion editorial is fairly new and I’m just trying to understand where everyone is coming from and therein lies the issue for me as you so well explained, that blog comments will be from a diverse group of people with just as diverse opinions.

As consumers, we get given what the industry decides and we can critique to our hearts content.

  10. My penny’s worth! I don’t think it is the best shoot by Testino by a long shot. I love Abbey but I don’t think this is her best work.

On the other hand this is an advertising campaign not an editorial.
It is meant to by straight up and down. Most of the shots will never be seen together in the stores or wherever else they are used. Everone carries the same flat
expression in the shots. That is par for the course (whether we think it good or bad) in these big name camaigns and apparenly deliberate.

  11. You forget that this is not an editorial, this is an ad campaign. There is no story to be told here.
A similar facial expression or style can be adopted throughout so each photo relates to another.
We will not see allll of the photos in sequence when it goes to print as we do here.

  12. Yeah, It seems they’ve finally got accustomed to Abbey’s white hair, her look’ve finally grew on them and she’s ‘back’, ready to be EVERYWHERE.
She’s so unique and makes every editorial or brand look chic and exclusive.
I love the simplicity of the shoot and actually those are the boys’ expressions that do not change it kind of annoys me but yeah it’s an ad so it’s supposed to be as it is.

  14. I believe anyone may say what they think or feel about the things posted here, that doesn’t mean they are haters! That’s a stupid and ignorant comment and makes them be haters instead.

I like the clothes, they look great! I’m not a fan of the model in these photos though, I feel that she gives the same facial expresion in every photo, it’s kinda uninspiering…also I would have loved if the hair was more icy blonde, now it almost looks alittle pink in some photos.

  15. Gosh you people, so what this isnt his best and so what her expression didnt change. Who r u people???????? really Testino is awesome and Abbey is a good model. This is an ad, not an award winning story, geesh. The clothes look awesome, I’m sold and would buy every last piece, if I could afford it, lol. Mission Accomplished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop overthinking, and digging really deep to find the flaws in everyones work.

  18. I love the fact that VERSACE do not do anything with the hair. Versace is special itself so if they did ‘experiments’ with the hair it would be too much, no? hope it make sense to you (sorry for my english)

  19. I think that people are seeing this as an editorial. Her face looks all the same, TRUE, but the images are meant to be seen one by one, and not all together. Abbey is a great model and she can do more than that, but if this was the aim of the ad, what’s the problem?

  20. Ugh! What happened to the Versace ads? They used to be cool & sexy. I’m sorry, but Abbey is NOT a Versace girl: too skinny and NOT smoldering, sexy, hot, etc…
