Sonia Rykiel Fall 2014–Marking his third season at the helm of Sonia Rykiel, Geraldo da Conceicao’s fall-winter 2014 collection offered some experimentation on an already solid foundation. The Sonia Rykiel woman’s outlook for fall? Cozy and long wool coats, voluminous fur jackets and visible pockets–whether on trousers, coats or skirts. The proportions and lengths for autumn are a little mannish with outerwear featuring squared shoulders and relaxed-fit pants cropped at the ankle. Wallpaper inspired prints cover everything from color-blocked scarves to mid-length skirts and cropped jackets. Da Conceicao finishes the look with platform wedge sandals and partially sheer gloves; a ladylike touch to the autumn season.
Rykiel’s Bold Spring–The spring-summer 2014 campaign from Sonia Rykiel goes for a colorful and graphic look with these new advertisements starring British model Karen Elson. Fashion photographer Craig McDean shoots the whimsical featuring oversized shapes to go along with the new season’s pretty pastels and luxe knitwear. And in case you missed it, see the pre-fall 2014 collection from Sonia Rykiel.
Sonia Rykiel Pre-Fall 2014 – The pre-fall 2014 collection from Sonia Rykiel embraces a ladylike look with an outing of luxe knitwear and tailored coats. The new season focuses on a relaxed silhouette with wide-legged trousers, oversized scarves and boxy outerwear. The Rykiel woman’s look gets an opulent touch with fur stoles and embroidered separates. Pre-fall also plays with color-blocking and graphic text treatments for a whimsical accent to the seasonal wardrobe staples.
A Different Kind of Christmas – For this holiday season, Sonia Rykiel offers something different with a collection of cherry decorated sweaters and accessories including wallets, bags and jewelry. Hanne Gaby Odiele models the new collection in a Christmas film set to the tunes of “Santa, Baby”, where she plays with quite the fashionable piñata. But instead of candy, Rykiel’s signature knitwear falls to the ground. Hanne also recently posed for Rykiel’s resort 2014 lookbook. The Christmas collection features twenty-eight pieces in all, but check out some highlights below. You can shop the Sonia Rykiel Cherry Christmas collection here.
Rykiel’s Woman at Dusk – Sonia Rykiel designer Geraldo da Conceição noted in his show notes that the Rykiel woman for spring is “a creature of the dusk, a sunset heroine”. Spring 2014 definitely speaks to nighttime attire with its slinky silhouettes that have an almost sensual ease. The French label’s signature knitwear pieces were out in full effect with twenties inspired cuts decorated with blown-up argyle patterns, stripes and sparkling prints. The color palette of spring is varied; ranging from soft creams to fruity tangerines and plums. There is also a lingerie-inspired aspect to the clinging dresses and separates made of raw silk and lamés.
Very French – For its fall 2013 campaign, Sonia Rykiel celebrates the work of famous French graphic designers like Bernard Villemot and Raymond Savignac. Model Sam Rollinson poses next to cut-out designs in a set of studio images shot by Mert & Marcus and styled by Marie Chaix. This marks the first advertisements under the direction of designer Geraldo da Conceicao which focuses on pantsuits, knits and outerwear.
Sonia Rykiel Resort – Artistic director Geraldo da Conceiçao’s vision of the Sonia Rykiel woman for resort 2014 is of ease and elegance. Modeled by Hanne Gaby Odiele, the new season embraces pastel hues with a play on prints and color blocking. Rykiel’s signature knits are certainly in the spotlight this season in the form of sweaters, cardigans, slinky dresses and pleated skirts. Trousers fall at the calf; an oversized silhouette and play on proportion. Accessories include bowling bags, quilted backpacks and eastern-inspired platforms.
Essential Rykiel – Sonia Rykiel’s newly named creative director Geraldo Da Conceicao won’t make his debut collection until the fall-winter 2013 shows. In the mean time, the Rykiel studio team’s work on the pre-fall 2013 collection offers contemporary essentials with signature knitwear and whimsical prints. The transitional season sees menswear inspired pieces such as the trouser, suit jacket and button-up shirt. Dresses and skirts are a-line and mid-length; consisting of wool, woven chevrons and tweed jacquards. For evening wear, the Rykiel woman dons pleated jumpers and draped gowns in black and navy. / Model: Manon Leloup
Sonia Spirit – For its pre-fall 2013 collection, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel embraces individuality with an Andy Warhol inspired outing of wardrobe basics tweaked with unique details. Whimsical touches such as animal prints, butterfly jewelry, polka dot prints and bright accents bring a sense of surprise to the transitional season. Balancing the masculine and the feminine, the Sonia woman’s silhouette is easy and loose-fitting. Knitwear, a staple of any Rykiel collection, is kept simple with a rare striped print–perfect for mixing and matching.
Spring Heroine – Sonia Rykiel creative director April Crichton is inspired by English musician Kate Bush for the label’s spring-summer 2013 collection. Model Danielle Zinaich evokes the individuality and bohemian spirit of Bush in slick images shot by Katja Rahlwes for the new season’s catalogue. Romantic shapes with a Japanese influence come in poetic pastels such as powder pink, baby blue or Cadillac green. The Sonia Rykiel woman also embraces her masculine side with a section of smoking jackets, embroidered ties and cropped pants. Spring introduces two new handbag lines as well, The Grenelle and The Mazarine.
