Jacobs Leaves Vuitton – With rumors swirling around for the past few months, LVMH has now confirmed that Marc Jacobs has presented his last collection with Louis Vuitton for the spring 2014 season. WWD reports that the American designer is leaving to focus on taking his brand public on the stock market. The new creative director has yet to be named, but former Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquière has been one name speculated as Jacobs’ successor.
Jacobs Goes Dark for Spring – Marc Jacobs’ spring 2014 collection opened with a surprising showcase of wool jackets and sweatshirts in autumnal tones. Some of the silhouettes call to mind Jacobs’ fall 2011 collection with their sculpted shoulders, but instead of polka dots; military accents, leaf shapes or Victorian inspired patterns adorned the bulky designs. Playing with summer wear motifs, Jacobs also sent out Hawaiian print tops and Bermuda shorts with sandals. Models walked the runway with matching sheared blonde wigs adding an androgynous element to the designs. However, there was nothing boyish about the evening wear which dripped with sequins, tassels and fringe for a slightly gothic element to an already dark and sumptuous showing.
Marc’s Glamour – We shared a preview of the fall advertisements from Marc Jacobs earlier this season, and now here is a look at the full campaign starring Edie Campbell and Lily McMenamy. Juergen Teller lensed the pair with Campbell playing the role of aloof elegance while McMenamy shows off some rather interesting facial expressions. Jacobs’ designs of bold metallic fabrics, furs and sequins are juxtaposed against a gritty setting with styling by Love’s Katie Grand.
