Chanel went medieval for its fall haute couture collection as models took to the runway in oversize silhouettes, jewel tones and highly adorned garments. With the order going up the social ladder from peasant chic to medieval princess, the collection certainly had its fair share of wow moments. The brand’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, said the reoccurring theme of the lion was inspired by the house’s late founder, who was born in August under the sign of Leo.

A subdued color palette of ambers and greys made way for the impeccably tailored haute couture collection from Armani Privé. The side swept hairdo which models donned as they strolled down the runway, topped off a look of complete and utter sophistication. For the final part of the show, bejeweled dresses in rich tones of gold and amber brought some glitz and glamour to the stage.
Valentino continues in the vein of moody campaigns with its latest fall advertisements where models Freja Beha Erichsen, Monika Jagaciak and Tati Cotliar are more nude than clothed. Lensed by David Sims, the trio dons the label’s elegant wear in black and white.
Bringing together a group of four blonde models, the fall campaign from Miu Miu is all about girl power with the close knit group dressed in feminine frocks of blue, purple and yellow hues. Starring Lindsey Wixson, Siri Tollerod, Ginta Lapina and Daphne Groenveld, the advertisements shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott place emphasis on the playful appeal of the garments.

Givenchy’s fall haute couture collection garnered a more intimate gathering this season with a special presentation consisting of ten looks with ten models. Riccardo Tisci, the label’s creative director, said of the change, “I want to make couture even more special than it is, and not just another catwalk show.” Gone are the black ensembles and dramatic makeup which are replaced with neutral shades and ornate details of lace and fringe. Topping off the look are sleek silhouettes and tailored jackets.
Kicking off fall 2010′s Haute Couture Week, the Christian Dior show featured models gliding down the runway in full skirts, cinched waists and plastic covered heads. As always, John Galliano brought a sense of whimsy to the stage with bright colors and dramatic hair that tested gravity itself.
It’s out of the carnival and into the bedroom for Mulberry’s fall campaign. Starring Abbey Lee Kershaw and Hanne Gaby Odiele photographed by Steven Meisel, the image brings a sense of levity to the current season. (TFS)
