In an extravagant presentation featuring over eighty models, the spring 2011 collection from Chanel was unveiled in true Parisian fashion at the Grand Palais. The runway was designed to resemble the gardens of Versailles with models presenting an array of traditional Chanel tweed jackets as well as bursting floral prints, feathers and other ornate decorations. In addition to the clothes, another highlight of the show was the appearance of Ines de la Fressange, the first model to sign an exclusive contract with the fashion house. Ines walked the runway and appeared with creative director Karl Lagerfeld during the show’s closing.

Chanel went medieval for its fall haute couture collection as models took to the runway in oversize silhouettes, jewel tones and highly adorned garments. With the order going up the social ladder from peasant chic to medieval princess, the collection certainly had its fair share of wow moments. The brand’s creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, said the reoccurring theme of the lion was inspired by the house’s late founder, who was born in August under the sign of Leo.
