Alice + Olivia Fall/Winter 2014 Collection

Alice + Olivia Fall 2014–Influenced by fairy tales and Victorian style, the fall-winter 2014 collection from Alice + Olivia walks the line between whimsical charm and sharp tailoring. The new season embraces fantasy with sumptuous brocades, luxe velvets, delicate lace and shimmering metallics. More practical pieces include menswear inspired trousers as well as simple yet form-fitting day dresses. Skirts for fall are flared and full with pleats while gowns feature crystal embellishments for a romantic approach. For accessories, the Alice + Olivia woman wears NYC boots and pumps while bags also take on fairy tale figures with names like “Owl” or “Bear”.

Oscar de la Renta Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Oscar de la Renta Fall 2014–A gem of New York Fashion Week, Oscar de la Renta’s fall-winter 2014 collection tells the story of a powerful yet supremely feminine woman. For daytime, her wardrobe consists of tailored pinstriped suiting, luxe fur coats and embroidered tops. In the evening, she wears gowns (naturally) in bold shades of sapphire blue, ruby-red and cool metals. Of the collection’s standouts, a dark empire waist dress matched with gold embroidery and worn by Jourdan Dunn is a show-stopping look.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2014–Marking their first season as designers for Marc by Marc Jacobs, British duo Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley delivered a forward thinking approach to the line’s fall-winter 2014 outing. Previously the Marc line has been slightly seventies inspired with pajama dressing and loose silhouettes. Hillier and Bartley offered a change of pace with a street wear inspired take on outerwear. The silhouette of choice was a tailored, military inspired jacket paired with baggy pants. On her feet, the Marc girl wore a mix of sneakers and boots. Bold colors exploded on the runway with motocross influenced looks featuring words such as “Revolution” or “Twisted” proudly displayed on models’ chests. Elsewhere, the fall collection showcased the Japanese Lolita style with Victorian-esque skirts and oversized bows.

Rodarte Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Rodarte Fall 2014–While last season, the Rodarte sisters looked to downtown Los Angeles for inspiration, the fall-winter 2014 runway show had a more sci-fi approach with models wearing raccoon eyes and slicked back hair almost like celestial creatures. The designers offered airy chiffons in jewel tones for their opening looks which then transitioned into retro futuristic jackets and vests with pointed lapels. A mix and match of textiles recall the more kitschier side of the brand’s DNA. For the finale, Rodarte offered silk gowns printed with the images of Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and more characters from the original “Star Wars” films.
