Proenza Schouler Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Proenza Schouler Fall 2014–For designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough’s fall-winter 2014 effort for Proenza Schouler, the pair looked for a more sculptural silhouette than last season as seen by the opening looks featuring exaggerated and curved shoulders paired with nipped waists and full skirts. This silhouette is replicated throughout the whole collection with variations ranging from jackets, short sleeves and dresses. Glimpses of the eighties are not only seen in the powerful shoulders but also in the bold and bright color combinations. There is something thoroughly modern though about the prints which have metallic finishes with swirly patterns, almost zebra-like in their execution.

Anna Sui Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Anna Sui Fall 2014–Citing inspiration from 1930s Chinese American actress Anna May Wong, Anna Sui’s fall-winter 2014 collection brings a retro kick to New York Fashion Week. More bohemian than flapper inspired, the Sui woman wears art deco inspired prints, luxe metallics and fur accents in her bold wardrobe. A color palette of rich jewel tones is juxtaposed with printed maxi dresses and long scarves. The models’ makeup is dark and glamorous; a definite nod to Wong’s silver screen looks. Layers are key to the fall season with the Sui woman donning loose and flowing separates for an almost leisurely effect.

Hugo Boss Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Hugo Boss Fall 2014–Marking its first runway show, and first collection by Jason Wu, the Hugo Boss fall-winter 2014 outing pays homage to the brand’s DNA while looking towards the future. A focus on tailored outerwear is a given and Wu delivers that with military inspired coat dresses in neutrals. Elsewhere, daywear takes shape in the form of mid-length dresses with almost patchwork techniques juxtaposing blocky patterns with solid grey or black for a coolly modern effect. The Boss woman gets a little shine with the finale section featuring sequin-embellished skirts paired with airy silks.

Michael Kors Fall/Winter 2014 | New York Fashion Week

Michael Kors Fall 2014–Northern California ease mixed with urban polish. This is the theme of Michael Kors’ fall-winter 2014 collection. The American sportswear king presented a solid collection for New York Fashion Week. Outerwear is the call of the season, and for fall the Kors woman wears a mix of tweed and fur as well as oversized cardigans paired with chunky scarves. The lighter pieces of the season include dreamy chiffon dresses or airy blouses such as a ruffled skirt look worn by Ashleigh Good.
