Fendi Fall/Winter 2014 | Milan Fashion Week

Fendi Fall 2014–The show notes for Fendi’s fall-winter 2014 collection describe the clothes as brutal, poetic, pure and fluid. These contradictory statements provide the basis for the Italian label’s outing of strength and romanticism. With camera drones capturing the catwalk from above, model Cara Delevingne (a Milan exclusive) opened the show wearing a fitted parka while holding a mini Karl Lagerfeld doll that was also fitted with a camera. The silhouette for fall is voluminous with plenty of fur coats displaying white orchids for a romantic touch while skirts fall almost to the shin. Finishing the look, Lagerfeld provided the Fendi woman with an ankle boot–a luxe take on the sneaker with a stacked heel and lace up front.

Max Mara Fall/Winter 2014 | Milan Fashion Week

Max Mara Fall 2014–Outerwear is Max Mara’s signature, so its fall-winter 2014 collection was certain to not disappoint on that front–there’s plenty of options for chilly weather here. While last season was an exercise in minimalism, fall is all about texture with ultra-luxe cardigans, tweed coats and metallic gold skirts that bring an unexpected element to the look. A moody color palette of grey, black and brown paired with relaxed and slouchy shapes brings a slightly grungy vibe to the Max Mara woman’s wardrobe. The final section edges towards a riff off the tuxedo jacket in all black and accented by PVC.

Fausto Puglisi Fall/Winter 2014 | Milan Fashion Week

Fausto Puglisi Fall 2014–Marking his sophomore runway presentation, Italian designer Fausto Puglisi presents a dynamic fall-winter 2014 collection full of color and print. His inspiration is suitably artful with references to the work of Russian artist Kazimir Malevich and Ukrainian Orphic artist Sonia Delauney. Much like his influences, Puglisi’s prints are abstract with a play on color and proportion. The Statue of Liberty was a reoccurring image, being proudly displayed on tops. The silhouette is all about the skirt–varying from fun and flirty pleated minis to the more demure mid-lengths.

Alberta Ferretti Fall/Winter 2014 | Milan Fashion Week

Alberta Ferretti Fall 2014–While last season focused on pretty florals and candy-colored stripes, the fall-winter 2014 collection from Alberta Ferretti took a more romantic approach embracing a forest palette of rustic brown, green and autumnal orange. The outing focused on an attention to detail. Fine craftsmanship can be seen in everything from a cape’s carefully frayed edges to woven textures featured on a dress’ bodice to feather adornments strewn across full, voluminous skirts. Overall, it was another strong showing from Ferretti with the perfect balance of fantasy and ladylike restraint.
