This looks exactly like something Rila Fukushima did some time back (can’t remember for what publication) with her skin also painted brown… I find this revelation slightly disappointing. I do love Liu Wen, however.

I think this is gorgeous, and does anyone know if those red lace up boots are opening ceremony?

The make up looks dirty and the styling make this look more like a costume shoot instead of a fashion one. BUT LIU WEN’S MODELING ELEVATES THE OVERALL QUALITY! LOV HER!

The riot of colours and textures in this editorial are just beautiful.

Another European production of a fantastical nonwhite female character. The usual irony is that a young white dreadlocked vacationer is the most likely person to wear anything resembling these outfits.

I agree with your first point.

I don’t really like this, it’s shallow and lacks substance. I can appreciate the layering and juxtaposition of the natural and manufactured, and to some extent even the paradox that this lends itself to- that everything is derived from nature. But it’s too gimmicky and Liu Wen looks like she’s taking herself too seriously. Everything contradicts itself.

*too gimmicky because it’s trying to be so many things at once

liu wen is the only aspect of the editorial that is working for me. if she is taking herself too seriously, i imagine it is because the photographer told her to. she works fabulously with what she has; i swear she is modelling magic. :)

I agree with you, I think Liu Wen is fantastic as a model. I feel that she has done better than this shoot though; the direction doesn’t work for me =/

I don’t like Liu, she needs to work on her mouth, when she opens it, chin looks really weak. Styling and make-up are great, so are non-studio locations, i wish there was a story behind this shoot rather than simple clothes demonstration.

It could have been great, if the stylist hadn’t tried so hard! And I really don’t get the studio shots mixed with the ones shot outdoors. Hoped they all were out.
