H&M’s 2016 Conscious collection is taking sustainable fashion to new heights with historic inspired designs. For the new collection, the H&M design team found inspiration at the recently launched ‘Fashion Forward – 300 Years of Fashion’ exhibit held at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

The Conscious range includes feminine silhouettes with dresses and gowns. This season even introduces three wedding dresses with dreamy and draped shapes. The sustainable material includes organic silk, hemp, recycled linen and Tencel blends. Embroideries of beads and rhinestones are made from recycled glass and a recycled denim material—Denimite.

The face of H&M’s 2016 Conscious campaign is style star Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, daughter of Carine Roitfeld. Julia says about the new collection, “One of my favorite pieces from the collection is the mini asymmetric dress that was inspired by a painting by Gustave Moreau. I love the mix of a conscious, sustainable fabric and an old painting. It’s great to be able to have sustainable clothes that still look red carpet-ready.”

“Working with innovative sustainable materials and ornate embellishment, the collection is a layering of references, shapes and textures topped off by intensely decorative accessories and deco-inspired bijoux,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M.
