Shooting some of his model muses, Karl Lagerfeld creates the cover shoot of Numéro Homme #19 with Baptiste Giabiconi surrounded by a pack of Chanel girls including Abbey Lee Kershaw, Freja Beha Erichsen and Hedi Mount. Wearing the label’s pre-fall collection, the quartet is all stoic sophistication in Prédateurs.

    • I agree that he doesn't look like he's performing his best in this shoot.
Unlike some folks here, I do like him I'd say about 3/4 of the stuff he's in- but when he falls flat it's really flat.
The women definitely are the focus of this editorial, no matter whether that was the intent. Is he holding back because he's supposed to be the "victim" here, or did he just perform poorly? Either way, he isn't exactly popping off the page.
I notice poor Baptiste isn't even mentioned in the headline here! (Not to mention Heidi Mount being spelled "Hedi", but at least she's mentioned.)

  1. Poor Abbey, I hate to say it, but yet again she dissapoints. This whole shoot is so lack luster and boring. So uninspiring. This just reinforces my belief that Karl Lagerfeld is the most overrated man in fashion.

  5. Karl is bolder than ever in expressing his Aristotelian view of women as predators in this editorial. Our articles on Lagerfeld's psyche are gaining great traction. Curves in women are not allowed, says Karl. But in his pet Baptiste, ooh la la. Take note that Baptiste emerges with the biggest head in the last photo. Totally Aristotle. That's what's with Baptiste's face. The androgyny of men triumph, and then there's no need for women. This is the gender rumble of the 21st century, and its full expression in fashion is coming out from under the covers.

    • I see no real discernable difference in the size of their heads in that last pic. Baptiste is a man, and men do tend to be slightly larger than women, but there appears no effort to make him look especially large. His shoulders are wider the the ladies'- but again, he is male.
This big head business is really reaching here. And I ask, how triumphant does he look with his lips slightly parted and not even engaging the viewer, unlike the more truly intense looks of two of the three women? (The third looks like she may have been trying, but…) He does not look like he's won anything in this shoot except the same thing the women have- a job.
Of course it is correct that the women in the shoot are portrayed as predators, but that can be learned from the title…
What it means in the context of Karl Lagerfeld's work has to be considered in the context of all his work, not just pieces one can selectively use to "prove" a conclusion that was written before the actual research was done.

  10. I dislike the models Karl chose for his Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld and Fendi ads ; I wouldn't complain if he changed sometimes, but they're always the same and they're so dull (what a shame, since I love every collection he creates). And now we're seeing them all together in editorial, I die
